In Memory

James Kaloger

James Kaloger

Birth: May 29, 1955
Grosse Pointe
Wayne County
Michigan, USA
Death: Nov. 5, 1989
Detroit
Wayne County
Michigan, USA

Murder Victim.

Jim was the son of Carol and Jim Kaloger. He graduated from Grosse Pointe North High School where he played football, baseball and track. He was in the choral group, but excelled in debate/forensics, receiving many awards and recognition. Jamie was also involved in the Big Brother program. He went to the University of Michigan and lived at the Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity house. After graduating there, he pursued his M.B.A. and J.D. degrees at the University of Detroit Law School where he won the American Jurisprudence Award. Jim decided to live in a racially diverse neighborhood in Detroit, and bought a small house there. One night, he was preparing legal briefs, when the person he'd been a "big brother" to, J.H. Burke, burst in his house and shot him point blank in the face and fled. Burke later returned, stepping over Jim's body, and stole cash, valuables, the murder weapon, and Jim's car. Plea-bargaining got him only 5-15 years at a medium security work camp. He served only 4 years and 5 months. Jim's family won a wrongful death suit and now Burke must pay a percentage of his future earnings to P.O.M.C., Inc.

I always liked Jim.  He was funny, and smart!  I am so sorry to hear that he died, and that he

died so tragically, and so young.  He surely deserved better.  He was just a great guy.

My heartfelt condolences to his family.

I echo Claudia's sentiments. Tragic.

Jim and I were good friends. A great sense of humor and a heart of gold, which led him to the work he did. It is so tragic what happened. He is missed by many.
